Denver Deal: Colorado History Museum, LEGO Kidsfest, Consignments, Harkins Theaters
I had the opportunity to see the new History Colorado Building at 12th and Broadway. The building is amazing and there are a ton of interactive exhibits for kids to really discover history – to be proud of living in Colorado and drive a time machine! Yes, I really did say drive a time machine. The centerpiece of the lobby when you walk into the building is the amazing map of Colorado where kids can wheel a machine over tabs on the floor – to set off a time machine that teaches them history. But perhaps one of the most interesting stories came when I spoke with Steven Wetizman, the artist that designed the floor. He said that he was not the first choice of artist–he was actually the second choice. The Historical Society contacted him six months after awarding the project to someone else to ask if if he could still do it. That speaks volumes to me about how you should never to give up in your dreams. Now his creation will be the on the floor for generations to admire and interact with. Yes, history is Alive. History Matters. History is FUN!
