Missoni merchandise a hit at Target stores

Missoni merchandise a hit at Target stores

Shoppers were swarming Target stores Tuesday morning as limited edition clothing and accessories from Missoni, a high-end Italian company, hit its floors.

“Merchandise is flying off the shelves,” said Stacey Luthy, the executive on duty Tuesday morning at the Orchard Town Center store in Westminster. “We’re saying Missoni is like the day after Thanksgiving.” Women’s clothing and shoes, as well as home furnishings, are particularly popular, she said.

At the store in Glendale, which opened at 8 a.m., a clerk in the women’s clothing department said that by 8:15, racks held only a few items. An hour later, shoppers were hovering around clerks opening boxes in the home furnishings department, hoping to snap up $30 pillows and $100 duvet sets as inventory was replenished.

Missoni, which is known for its expensive, colorful knitwear that can cost hundreds of dollars per item, collaborated with Target to come up with a line of some 400 fashion and home products selling for as little as $7 for socks to $600 for patio furniture. The promotion was scheduled to last until Oct. 22, but store spokespeople said they’re not sure what if any additional inventory they’ll be getting. “I told customers they should look in other stores,” Luthy said. The company’s website was also experiencing brisk traffic.

  • Samantha says:

I was at the Arapahoe/I25 target yesterday at 8:10 am, and the store was picked clean- multiple women were purchasing hundreds and hundreds of dollars of inventory each to immediately resell on eBay. It was pretty disgusting to watch- and lo and behold, less than 3 hours later eBay was overflowing with the items- my fave, a pair of $30 ballet style flats, listed for $129.99. Really? Isn’t crazy spending like this part of what got us all into the current economic mess?

  • Huh? I guess we are dorks up here in Arvada/Westminster, because the racks were full yesterday when I went. I thought most of it was ugly, but there were a few bright spots. There was a really cute coat and leggings, but they were for toddler girls. The quality was kind of iffy, I thought, even for Target. Give me Circo or Genuine Kids any day.

I’m not about to spend $40 on ONE clothing item at Target. If I’m going to spend that much money on single clothing items, I’ll shop Mini Boden or Hanna.
