When I was pregnant with my first child, one statistic resonated with me: the majority of car seats are installed incorrectly. For that reason, I always had them installed by a fire fighter who was certified to do so.

The view wasn’t too bad, either.

According to a survey of more than 900 parents who currently use child car seats, more than 91 percent said they were confident that their car seat or seats have been properly installed. However, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data shows that 75 percent of all car seats are improperly installed.

This National Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 19-25) provides an important focal point for parents to learn about resources that can help them bridge this disconnect and decrease the chances that their children might be injured in a crash.
