In this series of blogs, the “Kid Blenders,” I will be addressing our challenges, trying to blend our two families together. The names of the children will be changed to spare the easily embarrassed. And let me be upfront about this: I’m no clinical expert. I’m just a single mom trying to figure life out as I go. But knowing that there are around 14 million single parents out there…I’m guessing that I’m not alone in this venture.

Snorkeling Through the Unexpected Waves of Panic

Yes, it’s March in Colorado, which means we’re in the midst of what is typically our snowiest month of the year. But, because it’s Colorado, it may be in the 60s and Sunny! Or not! Either way, I keep thinking back to our trip to Hawaii in October and dreaming a little. [...]

Letterboxing: Finding More Than Just Hidden Treasure

What is Letterboxing? Amber wrote a post about this last year, but I thought I’d add a little update of our own.  Honestly, before Amber’s post, I’d never heard of it. I thought maybe it was a craft idea or a new exercise routine.
Well, it’s not!
Oddly enough, being “crafty” helps, and you do [...]

The Open Enrollment Game: Where to Register for School?

Next week, I get to register Claire for Kindergarten! It’s hard to believe, but districts all over the Denver Metro Area are holding their Kindergarten Registrations in January!

So, next week, I’ll be standing in line at our neighborhood school…whether or not I want her to go there. If I was [...]

True Holiday Confessions: I Only Pretend to Like Holiday Decorations

There. I said it. I don’t like holiday decorations.  Bah Humbug!  Not only that, I’ll take it a step further. I can’t stand holiday decorations. Would “hate” be too strong a word? I’m probably not going to make very many friends with this post today, but today’s post is about confessions, [...]

Before the Holidaze Begin, the Holiday Letter is Done!

It’s really not my fault, even though it does seem hypocritical of me. I mean, how can someone who grumbles about the “Happy Hallow-thanks-ismas” season that morphs and spreads through all the retail stores as soon as they take down the Back To School signs be done with her Holiday Letters?  (Photo credit: The [...]

What “DIY” REALLY means

DIY technically means Do It Yourself, but we have other definitions:
D: Dirty, Disgusting, Design, Discoveries
I: Irritating, Impatience, Ingenuity, Inspiration
Y: Yelling.
Yes, our version of DIY pretty much always ends in Yelling.
(This photo was taken in the midst of one of our bathroom remodeling projects.)
The quality and clarity of swear words included in the Yelling phase have [...]

I have a confession to make: I knew I was going to have a great time in NYC for BlogHer10 before I even got there. Yes, it’s true. I’d decided before I even had my bags packed.
You can do that?
Yes, you can, and I do it before every trip I take.
