I feel like apricots are a 4th tier fruit, somewhere between a not ripe peach (which would be third tier) and a fully ripe plum, but my kids love them. I don't know what I'm missing that they see. Also, figs are a big deal in California, but I have no idea how to eat them, I bought some for the kids and they seem as perplexed as me, but many natives wax poetic about fig season, I don't get figs.

I didn't eat a Bing Cherry until I was over 18. My mom never bought them for us. I love them! And buy them when they're in season. I may have bought many more while pregnant using my pregnancy as my excuse!

It's funny how our parents allergies/likes/dislikes affect what we eat. My husband thought he didn't like shrimp. But his dad is allergic so I don't think he ever really ate them. But then he moved to Charleston, SC and his wife forced him to try shrimp and grits. He was hooked. And now he loves shrimp.

I also never ate brussel sprouts growing up. My mom didn't like them so she never cooked them. But I had them once at a restaurant and realized that cooked well they were actually tasty. So now I eat them. Same with asparagus. So if your kids will probably still eventually get to make up their own minds about the coconut.

My youngest spied some cherries recently in the grocery store and asked me what they were. I guess I've been a delinquent mom, but I don't have any good reason! I used to love eating cherries at my grandma's house when I was a kid. Maybe I'll pick up some this week.

However, I'll never serve my kids asparagus for the same reason yours won't get coconut. Plus, after watching umpteen Veggie Tales movies, it seems almost cruel to eat an asparagus.

Haha!! I love coconut! But cherries are good too...my 14 year old daughter can tie the stem into a knot with her tongue. "It means I'll be a good kisser" is what she told me. As a homeschooling mom, I have only myself to blame for the fact that she has that information.

I so agree about the coconuts. And I LOVE cherries. I'm glad the display worked on you and your kids got to experience them. Sad for you though. Although, you're not missing anything with those DQ cherries. Those things are nasty.
