I have a worthwhile goal this summer: to have my children dedicate some time to schoolwork everyday. But mixing things up and keeping learning fun isn’t easy.

Hence the reason why I send my children to school for nine months out of the year.

That’s why I jumped at the chance to review VTech’s latest product: the MobiGo Touch Learning System. My children are 6 and 3 1/2. The touch-screen learning system is designed for ages 3 to 8.

It was like a match made in mom-needs-help-during-the-summer heaven.

When I showed my children the device, they were ecstatic. They navigate my iPhone like pros so figuring out MobiGo’s touch-screen technology was a no-brainer for them. They love the games. I love that they’re learning and don’t even know it.

The games and learning skills include: Fishing, coloring book pages, drawing and playing instruments that incorporate math, vocabulary, spelling, logic and categorization skills. The slide open QWERTY keyboard introduces older kids to text typing skills.

Something else I like: There are two levels (easy and difficult). My daughter can challenge her skills in the more difficult level and my son’s confidence grows as he masters the simpler level. The Mobigo also does a fine job of helping him develop his fine motor skills, something he still struggles with at this age.

The Mobigo will have FREE downloadable online content so kids can customize their devises. Additional game cartridges will be added including Disney/Pixar Cars, Disney Fairies, Shrek and more at $19.99 each.

And what do my kids think about it?

“I like that you just have to move stuff with your fingers. It’s easy to use!”

“I like the squirrels.”
And when I was setting up the device, I was reprimanded:
“Mommy, HURRY. Dis game is not for grownups.”

MobiGo retails for $59.99 and will be available exclusively at Toys R Us stores and online beginning June 7, 2010 and in stores in August.
