Weekly Event Round-up: Stars on Ice, Schoolhouse Rock Live and More!

Sunday. Get up close and personal with some of figure skating’s biggest names at Smucker’s Stars on Ice at the Pepsi Center. The show features individual and pairs champions from around the world dancing, spinning and jumping in a variety of musical routines. Sunday’s Denver stop includes Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek, silver medalist Sasha Cohen, gold-medal duo Shen and Zhao and the U.S. men’s national champion, Aspen’s own Jeremy Abbott. 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle; 303-405-1100. Tickets are $25-$140 with discounts on most seats for seniors and children. Buy advance tickets by calling TicketHorse at 866-461-6556, or visit tickethorse.com. For more information, including the full roster of skaters, visit starsonice.com.

Friday-Sunday. Elite runners are descending on Denver this weekend for the Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon, but the fun’s not limited to registered runners. Everyone is invited to stop by the free Health and Fitness Expo at City Park. Visit booths for race sponsors, vendors and charity partners to pick up free samples, shop and learn. On Saturday, kids can participate in quarter-mile and half-mile fun runs, too. The coolest part? The young racers get to use the same start/finish line as the grown-ups in Sunday’s marathon. Health and Fitness Expo: Noon to 7 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Kids’ Fun Runs start at 10 a.m. Saturday; registration starts at 8 a.m. City Park, 17th Avenue and York Street. Registration is $10 per kid. To register online and learn more, visit coloradocolfaxmarathon.org.

Saturday. Bring the whole family and rock out at the seventh annual Tellerpalooza concert at the Mercury Cafe. A benefit for Denver’s Teller Elementary, the show starts early so kids can come, but goes late so parents can call a babysitter and have the night off. The Teller student band kicks things off, followed by local rockers The Swayback, Rob Drabkin, Dylan Yawger and more. While bands are jamming upstairs at the Cafe, a student talent show and magician Gregg Tobo entertain downstairs. 4 p.m. Saturday. Mercury Cafe, 2199 California St.; 303-294-9281. Tickets are $20 at the door. Visit tellerpalooza.com for more details.

Friday-Saturday. It’s the last chance to catch the Arvada Center’s production of “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” A young schoolteacher discovers he can help his students learn by taking school subjects — like math, grammar and history — and setting them to music. Kids will enjoy the musical on its own, but parents can get a hit of nostalgia from sweet old tunes like “Conjunction Junction” and “Just a Bill.” 10 a.m. and noon today, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. The Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd.; 720-898-7200. Tickets are $8, available by phone or online at arvadacenter.org.

Saturday. Join the celebration when the student company of Ballet Nouveau Colorado presents its spring performance, “Coppélia.” The classic ballet tells the story of a small town turned upside down by a life-sized dancing doll. The trouble starts when people begin falling in love with her — but is she still just a doll? A fun romp with a happy ending, “Coppélia” is appropriate for all ages. 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Broomfield Auditorium, 3 Community Park Road, Broomfield; 303-464-5835. Tickets are $12-$16 for adults, $10-$14 for students, seniors and children. Buy tickets and learn more at schoolofbnc.com.
