Weekly Event Round-up: Colorado Ballet at the Children’s Museum, a Chocolate Affair and More!

Sunday. Little ones can get their first taste of ballet when the Colorado Ballet visits the Children’s Museum of Denver. Members of the company will perform an excerpt from their upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast,” plus a few snippets from other fairy tale ballets. After the performance, dancers will answer questions from the kids and invite them to try on real ballet costumes. Early birds can also sit in on a dance-themed story time at 11:30 a.m. 1-3 p.m. Sunday. Children’s Museum of Denver, 2121 Children’s Museum Drive; 303-433-7444. The ballet program is free with museum admission: $7.50 for guests ages 2 to 59, $5.50 for seniors age 60 and older, free for children under age 1. For more information, visit cmdenver.org.

Friday-Saturday. Hit the highway with the Disney gang in “Disney Live!: Rockin’ Road Show!” The musical adventure finds Disney favorites Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck and Goofy bopping around in search of new talent. They follow lots of twists and turns along the way, and run into pals like Cinderella, Tigger and Buzz Lightyear. Kids are invited to join the fun, too, dancing and singing along with the characters. 6 p.m. tonight; 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday. Wells Fargo Theatre at the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th St.; 303-228-8000. Tickets are $15-$65, available at ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Learn more at disneylive.com.

Saturday. The 10th annual Chocolate Affair will make Saturday a very happy day in Arvada. Historic downtown Arvada will be filled with sweet stuff, from a chocolate cookie contest to a chocolate treasure hunt. Serious chocophiles will want to visit the Taste of Chocolate event, where more than 20 chocolatiers will share samples of their treats. Best of all, proceeds from the event benefit Ralston House, an organization that provides services for abused children. After the chocolate-nibbling, kids can listen to stories, get their faces painted or go on a free carriage ride. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Olde Town Arvada, Old Wadsworth Boulevard and Grandview Avenue. Admission to the Taste of Chocolate is $1 per person or $5 for 6 people. For more information, visit arvada.org or call 303-420-6100.

Saturday. Super Bowl Sunday is a fine day to sit around and eat snacks, but everyone knows it’s not the healthiest idea. Kids can get a little exercise in before the big game at Kids Bowl V at the Wildlife Experience. The museum will be filled with energy-expending activities like sports-themed games, a scavenger hunt and crafts. Youngsters can also learn how to make their own blend of trail mix as a game-time treat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Wildlife Experience, 10035 S. Peoria St., Parker; 720-488-3300. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors age 65 and older, $6 for kids ages 3 to 12. Children under 3 are free. For more information, visit thewildlifeexperience.org.

Through March 31. Take a trip back in time at “Lincoln in Focus: Original Photographs of the President and the Civil War” at the Byers-Evans House Gallery. The exhibit marks the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s election with a collection of 30 photographs — not prints — of the beloved president and his family, including a rare shot of Lincoln at Antietam. At tonight’s opening, as part of the First Friday celebrations, performers will be roaming the gallery in Civil War dress to add a sense of time and place to the show. Opening reception: 5-9 p.m. tonight. Regular museum hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Byers-Evans House Museum, 1310 Bannock St.; 303-620-4933. Admission to the Byers-Evans House Gallery is free. Visit coloradohistory.org for more information.
