Review: Dive Olly Dive! The Adventure Begins in the Sea

When we got back from our vacation we found this DVD waiting for us! We couldn’t wait to check it out. (This is not a paid review, however, The Casual Perfectionist was given a free copy of the movie in exchange for an honest review.)

The entire DVD runs about 55-minutes, and it’s divided into five different little stories. As with many DVDs, you can watch all of them in one fell-swoop, or you can pick and choose which story to watch.

The stars of the show are Olly and Beth, two a little research submarines-in-training. They and their friends are responsible for completing various tasks out in the ocean, and along the way, they have many adventures.

Claire was thrilled to watch a DVD that was ocean-themed, considering we’d just come back from visiting the beach in person!

Each little story had a theme ranging from some things are more important than being famous, to the importance of cleaning up the sea, to the fact that arguing doesn’t always mean the end of a friendship. Olly and Beth were able to work through the different challenges that arise, all the while teaching the preschool viewers these valuable lessons.

There were new and interesting creatures, vivid color, and catchy songs. When asked what her favorite part of Dive Olly Dive! The Adventure Begins in the Sea was, Claire, my 3-and-a-half-year old, answered without hesitation, “When they found the shells!” Having just spent hours searching for her own shells on the beach, it wasn’t a surprise that Claire latched on to the part of the story where Olly and his friend are responsible for cleaning and sorting shells.

Over all, she loved the DVD! It will make a great addition to our collection, and there’s not a single princess in it. ;)
