The Kid Blender: A Single Mom’s Attempt to Find Joy in an Unexpected Life
February 8, 2012 – 8:00 am | 2 Comments

In this series of blogs, the “Kid Blenders,” I will be addressing our challenges, trying to blend our two families together. The names of the children will be changed to spare the easily embarrassed. And let me be upfront about this: I’m no clinical expert. I’m just a single mom trying to figure life out as I go. But knowing that there are around 14 million single parents out there…I’m guessing that I’m not alone in this venture.

Sweet Life Nail Bar & Lounge Mani/Pedi Giveaway!

Submitted by on May 2, 2009 – 12:00 amNo Comment

Make sure to tune in tomorrow for our Mother’s Day Grand Prize giveaway: a professional teeth whitening to brighten mama’s day from Town Center Dentistry and Orthodontics (a $350 value)!

I hate to play favorites but if I am going to reveal my unsightly toe nails, it’s gotta be at Sweet Life Nail Bar & Lounge in Stapleton.

More elegant than the traditional nail salon, but not nearly as expensive as the typical spa, Sweet Life Nail Bar & Lounge is 2,000-square feet of beautifully designed space that is the perfect place for an individual service or group event, such as a wedding or baby shower. The salon carries 200+ colors of nail polish by Zoya, a long lasting and non-toxic product which is especially appealing to pregnant women and the health conscious. A variety of nail services, facials and body waxing is available.

Owners Diane Bilello and Anna Hughes had a specific vision in mind. “What we noticed about a lot of manicure places was the harried atmosphere, the fluorescent lighting, the strong smell of ammonia and chemicals,” says Bilello. “We wanted to create something entirely different. Not only do we offer non-toxic, natural products, but we’ve created a beautiful and comfortable setting that invites relaxation and camaraderie,” says Hughes.

Sweet Life carries the following products: Trollbeads, a unique jewelry line; local artisan jewelry; Sanitas Skincare, a Boulder-based product line used for facials; and natural soaps, lotions and essential oils. All are available for purchase, as is the Zoya nail polish collection.

Don’t live anywhere near Stapleton? Me neither. But my little guy and I made a morning of it. Mama got her pedi at Sweet Life and we then went next door to Perk and Play, a coffee shop that, with its abundance of toys, has become a local hub for moms and their children. We ended our day at Central Park, Stapleton’s million-dollar modern playground that has spongy purple mounds for toddlers and bouldering rocks for teens and adults.

We are thrilled to offer a lucky mama a mani/pedi. To enter, simply email us at giveaways@milehighmamas.com with “Sweet Life” in the subject line. Please include your mailing address. Contest deadline is May 10, 2009.
