What supplements do you give your children (if at all?)
July 29, 2010 – 12:00 am | 3 Comments

When my son was 4, I tried giving him nutritional supplements to make up for his appalling diet. I mixed fish oil into his orange juice. I let him eat candylike gummy multivitamins. And I stirred a chocolate powder containing 31 fruit and vegetable extracts into his milk.
It eased my worries, but experts disagree on [...]

The Allure of “Plastic”

Submitted by Aimee on March 5, 2009 – 12:00 am7 Comments

I was out to dinner with a friend the other night and she commented on how her son would need braces sooner than later. It seems that’s the new trend, doing a round of orthodontia early, and a round later, and overall it’s cheaper and easier. She was a bit abashed at the idea of worrying so much over his teeth, his looks, at such a young age.

I hastened to set her at ease.

I GET IT.

My front four teeth are veneers – after two dental surgeries in my youth, a full round of braces, bonding – the works. And the gap in my teeth still came back in adulthood. I spent my whole life trying to make my teeth perfect and in the end, one day in the dentist’s chair with fake teeth *finally* was my magic answer.

Then I leaned in and conspiratorially whispered to her, “…and that’s not my only ‘plastic’ surgery. I also had abreast reduction in 2002.”

My chest size had also been something I struggled with my whole life, and after we decided Declan was to be the “one” for us – we talked to the doctors about lifting the weight off my back – literally. And one major surgery later, with six pounds vanished off my upper regions – I was a NEW WOMAN.

And while I don’t really consider either of these two “fixes” something that will lead me down the path to becoming that crazy plastic surgery addicted cat lady, I can also understand what a slippery slope it is! To wake up and immediately see such amazing results??? It’s temping to think about what ELSE you might want fixed.

Of course, in this economy, it’s not like any of us would run out and throw money away on non-essential things – but what *would* you get fixed if you could? HAVE you had anything fixed, and what was your experience?

If I could… I’d get these extra bags under my armpits removed.

I am apparently a freak and when breast feeding, I have milk storage under there. … Yea… imagine my surprise that I have under arm udders :)

So… now that I am not having anymore babies, I would like to get them removed so I can wear a tank top again…:(

Definitely a tummy tuck to get rid of the “twin skin”!

    I’d have my hair straightened.

My unruly mane is the bane.

    You have a lovely smile.

Breast reduction! In a heart beat those babies would go back down to a C cup. Double D’s are just painful. The thought of losing three pounds off of each of them is simply delicious. And if I had the money to toss that way, even in this economy, I would so do it.

The only thing I’ve had “done” was my smile. My top teeth were a crooked mess! The whole process of orthodontia was painful and slow, but so worth it! I’m really glad my parents paid for it when I was younger, and I can’t imagine not having the smile I have.

Hopefully my daughter inherited her father’s perfectly straight (sans orthodontia) teeth! :)

I would have my pores filled in to stop my adult acne, and I’d have the hairs on my chin (those nasty black ones that I have to pluck every morning) lazer removed so they won’t grow back.

And while I’m at it I would have liposuction and then fake abs put in. =)
