Mine as a kid was outside - the space between the trunks of the hedgerow and where the branches came down. I had an old blanket over a pile of leaves and it was a good place to read. I remember for my daughter's second birthday I took her to McDonald's to let her play to her heart's content. Almost 1.5 hours later, I told her it was time to go but she REFUSED to come down. My happy disposition changed very quickly. I was 7 months pregnant and there was no way I was going up to get her. A sympathetic mom did it for me. My oldest was terribly frightened of all things "play" when she was little took her till she was 6 to get over that (seriously) but now she is almost fearless...the beginning of your story reminded me of all our early play dates and park trips and how much fun my friends had chatting and watching while I held my litle girl in my lap shaking and wanting to go home!
