Biggest Loser Boot Camp – Week Two (and Counting!)
Here’s the thing about weight-loss stories: you always see the before. You always see the after. But you don’t see the during – the journey it takes to get there.
Even when I watched the Biggest Loser on TV, I frequently fast-forwarded through all the workouts because all I wanted to know was how much weight they had lost. I didn’t really care how they did it. I just wanted to see their big numbers.
Well, this ain’t reality TV. I am not at The Ranch with doctors monitoring my every move and nutrionists constantly amending my diet. I have a life with a husband and kids who eat pizza in front of me. And ice cream. And that blessed cursed cookie dough. [Insert sigh here.]
When I first participated in Front Range Adventure Boot Camp, I figured I would have some great workouts and move on with my life. I quickly realized there was so much more to it. That this could be life-changing if I made the commitment to myself. And to you. And so every Friday, I will weigh in (literally) about my triumphs and trials and I invite you to join in. I also hereby pledge to you that:
1) I will not weigh in wearing only spandex shorts and a sports bra in front of millions of people.
2) There will be no tears because gosh darn it, nobody is voting me off at the end of the show with a cheesy food platter. (Though if calorie-free cheddar was allowed I may make amends).
3) But nobody is offering a prize of $250,000, either.
4) My prize is being around a very long time to see my children grow old. You know. Those same kids who contributed to this weight in the first place.
Well, maybe that cookie dough had something to do with it as well.
Two weeks into my journey, I have lost five pounds. And already, the Biggest Loser Boot Camp is teaching me how to delve deep within myself to realize we are all so much more powerful and resilient than we ever could have imagined.
Want to join in? Drop me an email and weigh in every week with me and share your journey. And if you have already arrived, what are your tips and successes!?

Yay Amber!!! You ROCK!!
wow! 5 lbs in 2 weeks?! awesome! i just reached my goal weight this week. finally. my sercret? train for a half marathon that will kick your butt and eat everything in sight. it’s the only “diet” that has ever worked for me! good luck on the adventure!
Good luck, Amber! I have been hoping to lose some weight, and you are inspiring me to get it done…
You go girl! I need to get in shape… sigh… round is a shape, right?
woo-hoo! Awesome!
The only thing that works for me… RUN RUN RUN every day and eat what I want.
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
Melissa – yes, round is a shape, isn’t it?
Chel – run, run, run used to work for me and was how I moderated my weight. Until I gained a ton of it with both of my pregnancies and now it is just getting back there so merely working out will help moderate my weight!
5 pounds is great news! good for you! keep up the hard work
Way to go! That’s a great start. We recently got a gym membership, so I’m hoping to get a few pounds off, too.
You are pretty brave to announce to the world your successes and failures. That’s what I call motivation. Running works for me…sort of…it burns calories so I can eat what I want, but you have to add resistance training to really see a difference. I’m sure you’re learning about all that stuff. I personally love going to all kinds of classes at the gym…I’m really competitive, so if I see someone else doing something, I can’t be outdone! Good luck. Congrats on the 5 pounds…that’s a HUGE accomplishment!
I seriously want to do this! I checked the times and they don’t work for me until summer break. I would loooooove to join you!
Sorry, but I’m supposed to be gaining. Otherwise I would TOTALLY give up my ice cream and join you on the scale. (Riiiight)
Keep it up!
Good for you, Amber! Way too make me feel lazy and fat. Kidding. I have not been very motivated lately. Summer needs to get here. Shoot, spring needs to get here! Forecast for the Chicago area on April 12- snow. Crazy!
Congrats on your success – that’s 2.5 lbs each week so far!!! Woohoo!
About a month ago I ran across Jillian’s (you know, from BL?) book “Making the Cut” – it’s very good, especially if you’re down to the final 20 lbs or so. I’ve been following her workout plan (not so much the diet) and I’m so, so so Happy with the results I’m seeing! The Biggest Loser Rocks!!
Congratulations! What a great start. Counting calories carefully has worked for me (aiming for 500 per day under my maintenance number) — but it’s a pain in the neck. Running every other day like clockwork also did wonders — but I was kidless then, and husband-less too, so my schedule was really my own. Right now, I have five more to lose. I’m waiting for weather warm enough to run, and then I won’t have any more excuses.
5 pounds!
WooT!
I think I ate 5 pounds just ate dinner.
I’m impressed…and so envious. Way to go Amber!!!
Heidi
And think of how much more you really lost, because fat weighs less than muscle; so while you are building muscle and still losing weight, you’ve really probably lost more than 5 pounds of fat since you are also exercising!
Way to go!
Way to go Amber! I am not one for diets or workout….don’t have the will power but I do have weight to lose so I was reading this book for a book club and I’m going to try that and see what it does for me. It’s “French Women don’t get Fat”.
Good for you, amber. I have been cutting back, exercising, and really trying, but it has been soooooo slow in coming off. (The older I get the harder it is ; )
Good for you! I am trying to motivate myself to lose these last few pounds. After three kids I seem to have about 15 that just want to stay permanently. Monday I’m going to start trying to attack them! If I could lose 2 pounds a week that would be sweet! I’ll let you know how it goes
5 lbs in two weeks! Wow! That is awesome! I am a pilates instructor…have you tried it? if not, you should. It is a great way to add tone to your body, without bulking up, and to lose inches around your middle. Keep it up!
Way to go!!!
Good for you, girlie!!
I am starting Weight Watchers again this week. It works really well for me, if I will be disciplined enough to stick to it.
Wow Chicka! That is awesome! I am going to have to check out that link!
5 pounds! That’s awesome!
