University of Colorado’s Family-Oriented Valentine’s Day Fundraiser

Submitted by on February 9, 2008 – 12:00 amNo Comment

Congratulations to Sheila L., winner of our MA! motherhood with attitude box set!

I made it perfectly clear when my husband and I got married that even though Valentine’s Day, our anniversary and my birthday fall on the same week, they are three separate and distinct occasions and should be celebrated as such. Yeah, right.

Valentine’s Day is the celebration that is often overlooked so I was excited when we were invited to the University of Colorado Hospital’s family-oriented Valentine’s Day celebration “Hearts of All Ages,” a fundraiser to support the Cardiac and Vascular Center. A family affair and a great cause? Count me in!

The celebration kicks off with a gourmet dinner catered to kids, something I had previously considered an oxymoron. It will be followed by dancing to the live music of “Big Bang,â€? face painting, Coconut the Clown, magic, and photos with Thunder, the official mascot of the Denver Broncos.

“In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, attendees will also learn how to take better care of their hearts through educational programs and hands-on medical simulations,â€? said Dr. John Carroll, chief of cardiology at University of Colorado Hospital. “This event will go a long way to helping us continue to provide the most advanced cardiac and vascular care in the Rocky Mountain region.â€?

Hearts of all Ages will be held on Valentine’s Day from 5:30-9 p.m. in The Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets for the event are $150 for individuals and $400 for family packages, (including four tickets, two for adults and two for children). To purchase tickets or for table sponsorship information, contact Angela Lieurance at 720-848-7802.

As a bonus, event co-chairs Pete Coors and Sharon Magness will be in attendance, as will Governor Ritter and Mayor Hickenlooper. Well, if you consider such esteemed company a bonus, which I really don’t since I will be wrangling my two young children to behave.

So if you are able to come, keep an eye out for us. We’ll be the ones pegging the governor with Cheerios.
