When I was originally contacted by the new Denver company MA! motherhood with attitude about offering a giveaway of their hilarious cards, I requested they first ship me out a sample. Not even an hour later, I went out to my mailbox and voila – a friend had sent me the very potty-training card they were going to send.

Talk about a sign.

Motherhood with Attitude’s notepads, greeting cards and box sets are a refreshing change from the formal and blah cards currently on the market. These have spunk and humor. Do you know someone whose child is celebrating their 2nd birthday? Why not send them a MA! card that features a picture of a tantruming toddler with “Your child is 2″ on the cover. And on the inset: “Bah ha ha ha ha ha ha!”

MA! motherhood with attitude believes that the best motherhood moments are captured by real moms of their real kids. Therefore, they only use photos submitted by moms from all over. They seek shots that capture a feeling of motherhood…such as sleep deprivation, chaos, frustration, elation and love. Or photos that celebrate milestones… such as first birthday, sleeping through the night, potty training, first day of schoo or prom. The backs of their cards include a brief description of the moment the photo was snapped.

MA! owner Janalee Chml (yeah, I don’t know how to pronounce her surname, either) is a local mother and writer who was continuously struck by the disconnect between what she was experiencing as a mom and what she saw in greeting cards and gifts for mothers. “Come on! We all sit around at play dates or mom’s nights out and talk about how hard it is!” she exclaimed. “And yet, all the cards act like we’ve got it soooooo good.”
