Before the television appearances and the best-selling cookbook, Roberto Martin was a typical “Top Chef” kind of guy: meat, meat and more meat.
But then Ellen DeGeneres and her partner, Portia de Rossi, both vegans, hired him to be their personal chef.
Now, he rarely puts anything in his body that comes from animals.
For Martin, ethics and [...]

Technokid

Bryan and I are tech freaks, so I am not surprised that Declan loves gadgets and gizmos already. At JUST-TURNED-FIVE.

We gave him one of our old PDA’s… and he uses it to practice his letters, do little graffiti drawings and manage the profusion of play-dates with his little friends. (Just kidding, that’s my job). OK, and he also likes to draw incredibly accurate sketches of the Palm Pilot itself, so it has its uses as a “model” too.

He also loves my iPhone (not that I actually let him touch it). He could point out the Apple symbol before he could speak (I am *not* kidding). One of his favorite things to do is get on my iMac and “type.” He knows how to work the DVD better than I do. He is adept at changing music around in every music player we have in the house (including iTunes), although since his musical tastes lean towards my style, his Dad doesn’t think much of this skill.

So the other night, we were sitting around the dinner table and I told the boys I needed to write a blog post after dinner.

Declan: “For which blog?” (He knows I write two).

Aimee: “Well, what’s the name of Mama’s blog?”

Declan: (very enthusiastically) “MILE HIGH MAMAS!” (Amber has been slipping him the Kool-Aid).

Aimee: “Right! And what is the name of my other blog?”

Declan: “iGoogle?” (Have I mentioned the kid can read? And maybe I should close my browser once in a while?)

Aimee: “Um, no. That’s where I put all the blogs I like to read. Try again.”

Declan: “The NaBlahBlahBlah thing?”

Aimee: (OK, clearly I spend way too much time on the computer and he pays too much attention). “Nope. It’s Greeblemonkey. Remember? The one named after you?”

Declan: “Oh, yeah… [pause] … by the way, what’s a blog?”
